I have been bad + new record

Oh dear. I have been a bad, bad blogger. I haven’t blogged since our UK and Irish shows, which were great. We played with some amazing bands and had fun exploring the cities, although I (Richard SoK) am from Dublin, so I’ve been to both places before. But it’s always nice to be back and the other SoK were visiting for the first time, so that was cool.

In other important news, we had a relatively quite Xmas season, but now we’re about to launch back into full gear for 2012. We’re beavering away at the SoK rehearsal space and we just finished enough songs to record our first full length record. Our hope is to do that in February and be ready for a release date some time in the first half of this year. But who knows! These things have a way of getting delayed. Hopefully not in this case…

European Shows in November

Hey all, just checking in to bring you up to date with everything going on in SoK land. We played our first ever show outside NYC, in Portland, Oregon (one of my favorite cities). It was a blast. And now we’re going to venture even farther afield and play in Europe! We have shows lined up in the UK and Ireland with some amazing bands. It’s incredibly exciting and I’ll be posting details to the live section of the website in the next day or two.

Other than that, we’re resolved to complete our debut album for release in the new year. I’ll be blogging more about that in the next few days.

Here it is, finally!

Our video isn’t officially released until tomorrow, but what the hell, I’m going to post it now. Hope you all enjoy, we busted our ass making it (twice!).

You can see it in full sized glory right here

Summer in the City

Well, I’m sitting out the hottest day of Summer in my air conditioned apartment and thought I’d write a little about what we’ve been up to. Out next scheduled show is at Rooftop Films on August 19th, where we premier the video for ‘Free Jazz’. We actually re-shot it at the weekend, the band agreed that the original version didn’t quite do what he wanted. We’re extremely happy with the new version, or the footage anyways, it’ll be edited over the next week or so.

We’re organizing a bunch of other shows and I’ll put them on the live page once they’re confirmed.

In the meantime, stay cool and I’ll leave you with this refreshing tune (before the video itself drops):

Rooftop Films

I have been bad. It’s been quite a while since I updated the blog but now I am back in action! Should be a fun Summer for Sport of Kings. We’re finalizing our video for ‘Free Jazz’ and launching it at Rooftop Films 19th August showing of ‘World’s Best Dad’ at the Old American Can Factory. We’re very excited.

Meantime, we’ve got a bunch of other fun stuff coming up and I’ll keep everyone posted about that. Plus we have some silly video we shot that I’ll be putting up. ‘Till then!

Free Jazz 7” Vinyl launch, February 23rd.

Well…..... happy new year from all here at Sport of Kings HQ. It has been a pleasant break, if you ignore the part where we were all trapped in our apartments by massive snow blizzards. Still, we’re feeling good about the upcoming year and here’s the first reason why:

Our vinyl 7” single for the song ‘Free Jazz’, backed with 1964, will launch on Wednesday, February the 23rd. Here’s the artwork:

Free Jazz

We’ll also be launching a video for the single on the same day. We’re especially excited about it, we had a pretty crazy concept and it looks like we pulled it off. I might post some teaser stills over the coming weeks, so stay tuned.

So we’ll be celebrating the release with a show on Feb 23rd at The Studio at Webster Hall, with some really great bands, EMEFE, The Stationary Set and The Vitals. Head over to our live page for more info on that.

That’s it for now!

Rock Yard pics plus update

Rock Yard

Long time, no blog! Well, things have been somewhat quiet in SoK-land, although we did manage to play an extremely fun labor day weekend show at Glasslands. Got a few pics back from our rock yard appearance, so I thought I’d share. You can see us in complete ‘proto-devo’ getup. There wasn’t room for the horns on stage, so they’re up front, might have been a mistake in hindsight because the stage was only 2 ft high and our horn section is tall!
